The Story Behind Bricktopia: Sensory-Friendly Pyjamas for Kids (and Grown-Ups)

At some point, you stop asking why they need another set. You just accept that building bricks are now a lifestyle – theirs, and by extension, yours. Bedroom floor: never recovered. Bare feet: no longer safe after dark.

So when we sat down to design our newest sensory-friendly pyjamas, we didn’t have to think hard about the theme. We just had to stop pretending it wasn’t already the whole household’s personality.

Meet Bricktopia. And apparently, it wasn’t just the kids who needed a pair. Ash claimed the adult lounge pants before they’d even hit the site. (You can never have too many bricks. Even on your PJs. 🧱)

Why We Made Brick-Themed Sensory-Friendly Pyjamas

Ask any parent of a sensory-sensitive kid what makes bedtime hard, and clothing comes up fast. Itchy tags. Bumpy seams. Waistbands that dig in. Fabric that feels “wrong” in a way that’s genuinely hard to explain when you’re six and just want it OFF.

Here’s what we’ve learned, though: comfort alone doesn’t always win the battle. A child can have the softest pyjamas on the planet and still refuse to wear them, purely on principle, if they feel like a chore.

But put those same soft pyjamas on in a print that matches the brick city currently taking over the lounge room, and suddenly they’re not “the pyjamas you have to wear.” They’re their pyjamas.

Fair question, and one we get asked constantly. Sensory-friendly clothing for kids and adults is designed to remove the everyday irritants that can overwhelm people with sensory sensitivities, including a lot of autistic kids and adults, and people with ADHD, sensory processing disorder (SPD) or sensitive skin. None of it is complicated. It just means someone actually thought about sensory needs before the sketch stage, not after the complaints started.

Is Bamboo Good for Sensory Sensitivities?

For a lot of people, yes. Every Bricktopia piece is made from our signature bamboo fabric: soft, stretchy and breathable. The adult lounge pants are 95% bamboo and 5% spandex, and the kids’ sets use a bamboo-spandex blend.

How Can You Make Bedtime Easier for a Sensory-Sensitive Child?

Start with what they’re wearing. Pyjamas won’t fix everything, but they’re one of the easiest wins. A few things worth trying:

Let them choose. Autonomy goes a long way. Pop or Dream? Let them pick.

Check the small stuff. Turn the pyjamas inside out and run a finger along the seams. If you can feel a ridge, they definitely can.

Lean into the obsession. A favourite theme can turn the nightly negotiation into something they actually look forward to.

Keep the routine predictable. Same order, same cues, same cosy pyjamas.
